Newsletter 25th January 2012
We would like to express our sincere thanks to you and to the children for the lovely gifts that were sent to the nursery for us. Some of these were hand made by the children (with we suspect a little help from their parents/carers) and we were truly touched by the amount of gifts that we received. Thank you.
The Christmas Party went particularly well this year and we are grateful to everyone who helped with it – particularly Chris (Jan’s other half) who played a vital role (the man in red). The entertainer was fun and we would propose to book him next year, as we think he did a great job of keeping the children engaged. Thank you to all of you for coming and to all of the staff who helped on the day.
Hello to all new starters – you know who you are it’s great to see so many new faces.
Staff news: Welcome to: Alison who has started her apprenticeship with us and has fitted in as a key member of our team. Sabrina who has returned to us after a stint in America, and Becks who is currently working on a supply basis.
Lewis, a pupil at Colonel Frank Seely school in Calverton will be with us one afternoon a week for three months to help out around nursery as part of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.
Goodbye to Lynne who is moving on after 2.5 years with us, we wish her all the best for the future.
Book bags (Pre school)
Does your child have a book bag? Please let us know if not so that one can be supplied.
Kit Bags
Space in our hallway is very limited, and we have supplied kit bags for everyone which are designed to take up the minimum amount of storage, but are user friendly. Please could you use these to replace the bags you would supply from home (some of which can be quite large and bulky). If you wish you can take these home and bring them back replenished in the usual way.
Recent activities & events in the nursery
Before Christmas some of the older children visited Lambley Primary School to watch their Christmas concert .
On a separate occasion the pre-schoolers were taken on the bus (a new experience for some of them), to visit Spring Lane Nursing home where they sang & danced for the residents, please see our photograph display by our home corner). The children behaved exceptionally well on both occasions.
Jenny our French teacher is a popular visitor with the children & she says they are doing very well.
This week the children have been celebrating Chinese New Year by making dragons, Lanterns & eating noodles with chop sticks.
The Babies have been experimenting with mark making using felt tips, chalks & wax crayons. They have also been singing nursery rhymes & creating pictures for their nursery rhyme display using paint, glue & collage.
Mini Zoo is booked to visit nursery on Friday 27th January, the children will be able to see & if appropriate touch a selection of insects & animals. If this event is successful we hope to book them again at a later date.
Following the extension of our opening hours session times will be : full day : 7.30-6.00 pm (5:55pm latest pickup); Morning session 7.30 am -12:30 pm; Afternoon session 1 pm - 6 pm (5:55pm latest pickup). This represents a small change to the morning and afternoon sessions. If your child currently attends these sessions and this will cause difficulties for you, please speak to Patsy who will do her best to ensure that this can continue. Our intention is to make changeover smoother for everyone, without inconveniencing anyone, and we expect that there will be some transitional period before the new session times are fully operational.
Parents/carers evening
We are intending to hold a parents/carers evening in early March (as has been the case over the last few years). A survey will once again be conducted as part of this to collect your views on the care offered at the nursery and any suggestions you may have for improvements. We will announce the date for the event in the next few weeks.
Thank you again for all your support over the past year – lets hope 2012 is a great year for
Lambley Day Nursery & Pre-school, it’s staff, parents, carers and most of all the children which are the most important thing to all of us.
